Just another Shock game sadly too far ahead of it's time in a lot of ways. I really think had this game and Infinite swapped release dates, BS2 would be much more highly regarded. While 2K Marine was making a game about parenthood, how children relate to their parents, and how your actions shape and mold them, and what that means, Sony Santa Monica was busy making Kratos beat women to death and overall being a paper thin waste of space to anyone other than a teenage boy, and Naughty Dog making a game about shooting snow gorillas in the face. I think it's no surprise it got so much flak for a "boring" story people couldn't relate to when other big series and developers that went down this road didn't do so for years and years after this game came out. The original "Sad Dad" game, this is a game dealing with real, adult themes that unfortunately came out when gaming was still in its teenage years. The gameplay is out of this world with how many options you have at your disposal to build Delta into your own flavor of killing machine, and the story while not as flashy as BS1 is much better written here and paced a hell of a lot better. Overall best Bioshock game by a while though. I consider the backpedal mid development away from the lovecraftian horror show it wanted to be originally and back towards a more "comfortable" look to welcome in returning fans a mistake and a huge missed opportunity to set itself apart from the original. Wish it was a bit more ambitious in its setting and art direction. Loses more points for repeating and in a lot of ways worsening every issue from the original game despite having ample time to rectify them over the years.īS2: 8.5/10 - loses points for a slow opening, but is too damn fun to let that hold it down too much. It’s not just one Colombia that makes it great, it’s the combination of them all.īS1: 7.5/10 - loses points for originality and being a step back from the very game it's largely a remake of in a lot of ways, but on it's own terms still a very strong game in a lot of ways. But the amount of change Colombia goes through throughout the course of the game is what really makes it special. Practically everything about it is the exact negative from its rapture counterpart. Colombia is such a beautiful area for a game to take place in, and such a polar opposite to the city of Rapture. Sure, some of the areas could feel… rather mundane, and a bit samey at times, but that doesn’t take away from the game itself! Given the context of constants and variables, the way the game plays is perfect for what it is. The gameplay is so different, yet noticeable similar, and this is entirely by design. I’m not sure if you played Burial at Sea, but it does a great job of fleshing out Elizabeth’s character more. The Luteces are enigmatic, ever present, and so, so intimidatingly knowing. Songbird is such an imposing figure that you’re always afraid of the next time he’ll strike. His character flaws are established and apparent the whole game. Booker is a very well written, and thought out character. How do I extract sounds/textures/models from the game? Is the Season Pass / Ultimate Rapture Edition worth it? What order should I play the games / Do I have to play all the games to understand BioShock Infinite or Burial at Sea?
